One of the problems is that a lot of the people who are breaking restrictions don't watch "news" programmes. If you showed all the shit that was happening on the soap operas, or the reality shows it might just strike home - but it's only a might.

I don't think it would hit home unfortunately - they think if they get it, it will just be a minor snuffle. There was an interview with a group of young people who were ignoring the guidelines during the last lock-down and one of them said he didn't see why they should give up their socialising because it was only dangerous to the old farts. When the interviewer said that that sort of attitude could result in the death of his grandmother, he said well she's had a good life anyway. Callous or what?

Beeb interviewed several people as to why their breaking the restrictions. This is a quote (allegedly ��) from the first interviewee:-

The Tory party (like the republicans in the US) is at war with itself. Even Johnson is somewhat more responsible and thoughtful than some of the more batshit loonies on the backbenches. In order to defuse the threat from UKIP the party has pretty much become UKIP with strong National Front overtones. The Republicans are morphing into the Confederates with strong Tea Party overtones.

It is an old saying that in trying to please everyone you please no one. I feel that this is where we are now. The restrictions are not really hard enough to stop the spread and the lack of restrictions not enough to let us have our entertainment and keep shops and leisure outlets open to keep economically active. Add in the fact that half the government are inept and halfwitted and it is not hard to see why no one is pleased.

I find it sad that so many of us (English) are so accustomed to this piss poor level of functioning that there is no outcry about it.
