Yes...and not necessarily. The crash recorder is only compulsory for aircraft over certain weight and passenger numbers. It gets further complicated that not all aircraft need data recorders. There are three types of crash recorder:
CVR - Cockpit Voice Recorder (records audio only)
FDR - Flight Data Recorder (records Parameters such as pitch, roll, altitude etc)
Combi - records both
Another type is coming which will do all the above plus image recording.
Anyway...suffice to say an AW109 is not "required" to have a recorder fitted but Agusta did make the decision to fit recorders wherever possible as a matter of course. The 109 was one of the borderline cases.
