Egyptian bank grants loans to young farmers to marry more than one wife

    By Al Arabiya

In an attempt to fight “spinsterhood,” the Egyptian Bank for Development and Agricultural Credit decided to grant loans to new farmers to encourage polygamy.

The Bank’s chairman, Mohsen Batran, announced in a press conference held with the Minister of Agriculture on Tuesday, that the bank will be granting loans to young farmers, to help them with the cost of marriage, according to “al-Ahram” newspaper.

His initiative includes encouraging polygamy, provided that they will just wed two wives. The bank’s chairman said that the loan’s interest on the first marriage is three percent while for the second marriage is six percent.

Men seeking a third wife will have to pay a loan’s interest of more than 15 percent.

According to Al-Ahram newspaper, there are nine million unmarried women in Egypt.

Batran, meanwhile, criticized those who are skeptical about the bank’s support to the farmers, adding that the bank had helped 37 thousand farmers with their debts.

BBC News - 'Horsemeat beef burgers' investigated in UK and Ireland

What will happen? The supermarkets will distance themselves from it, and allow the production plants to take all the blame, when all the time, they bang on about traceability and integrity, they are the worst of the lot!

I don't have a link, but on the Today programme at about 0642, Sarah Montague was reported that a dog which "blogged" on matters of fashion, it belonged to a writer on a fashion magazine, had been killed in a revolving door accident. John Humphrys was clearly trying not to snigger.

How long before the Daily Mail tries to turn this into a crusade?

Sad news... going to make my planned grocery shop at Sainsbury's tonight interesting as that's next to it. Hope there aren't any fatalities other than the pilot (not that I hope he died but that nobody else did).

I saw this on the Mail website yesterday. Two fire appliances and a dozen firefighters attended. For a small dog trapped in a revolving door. Although some reports did say the bloke walking it was injured too.

Right next door to my old office in the soon-to-be-demolished Market Towers. BBC are saying 2 dead 2 injured so far. I could see the plume of smoke from my office in Victoria.

Is that we the public call the 'black box'? Would it not be compulsory?
