You know the government have lost control and their grip on reality when they call in JCB, car manufacturers and military equipment suppliers and ask them if they could start producing ventilators. What could possibly go wrong there?!! The more this all goes on, the more it seems like the clowns in government, who somehow got elected to make a fortune cashing in at the trough, have suddenly realised that it is glaringly obvious that they're clueless now a real "situation" has developed; one that cannot be explained away by a few lies on a bus and a lot of loud repetition. Cue the scrambling plans like this one. You cannot just "make" medical devices like a toaster, especially if you're trying to start from a tractor production line and have no experience of doing so. On the plus side, it looks like my opportunities for commissioning/qualification work in the area might be about to go up!

As far from the sea as we could be, except when we can actually get in it.

Agreed. But from that article "Our correspondent says that the southern part of Bangladesh is more religious, with people there "passionately believing that Islamic sermons and prayer are able to solve their problems"." The problem is nothing else solves their problems either so why not believe?
Evolution is great at solving problems. It's the methods that concern me.

Just as well the CoE has cancelled all services then. I'm sure there's a few snake dancing fruitcakes somewhere who'll be hollering and testifying, or new age hippies eating herbs and aligning their crystals to stay safe.
