So yeah, in a perverse way copyright, or specifically ignorance and ease of actual copying, really is (in my case) killing creativity.

I will post a new thread on this after my court case today, but in essence I am no longer a working photographer and I am exiting the current business model. The joy of creativity in this everything-is-free world has gone. It's not just the money, it's the lack of respect and good manners too.
Interesting...I've had photos stolen before and they end up with two choices, pay an invoice that lands on their doorstep or remove the image, if they fail to do either its legal proceedings time.

Its frustrating as hell, yes. I also find it flattering in a vein kind of way, but also I don't let it stop my being creative. Photography is a huge huge passion of mine but the potential issue of Copyright infringement I don't let that stop me. Ultimately, compared to the amount of images I've put online the amount that have been copied is very very small (maybe that says something about my photos? hehe)

I get a kick out of photos, when I get 'the' shot it gives me a real buzz. If someone wants to try and take a copy of it? Bring it on.

The sheer volume of infringements, and their highly repetitive nature, means it has killed the fun for me in its current form.

But it won't stop me being creative. I just need to find another way...

It is the nature of the Internet. You can fake a person falling over in a rather childish and not really amusing way, add some (copyright) music and post the resulting shit up on You Tube. From time to time people with a mental age of 3 find it funny and it goes viral. You get loads of cash for basically being a wanker. Jeez there's even a telly program now that is just childish and clearly staged You Tube shit aimed at people who are either drunk or retarded (or both). The kind of people doing this can't spell copyright never mind understand it's basic premise.

I begged some images for some BSAC training material and asked the originator for permission, explaining BSAC is not-for-profit and everyone said "yes mate no problem". It's not hard to be polite and thoughtful really.

Ah, my opinion would probably be different if I had had it happen to me in a large volume!

    Copyright killing creativity?

What bollocks. Someone nicking a bit of music to accompany their holiday video isnt creativity. It's making their holiday video sound good. I've more sympathy for the creators of the music who more than likely put a hell of a lot of effort into those three minutes of music to accompany a video of someone on the Thistlegorm for free.

Having your music on a popular youtube video can prove a good source of income though. There was some wedding video that went viral and youtube and Sony agreed a deal based on a percentage of the advert income. The artist made quite a lot of money.

There's plenty royalty free music you can use . . Google it, there's websites full of the stuff for accompanying your videos without offending anyone.

Its what I use. Saves YouTube having a fit at you too.
