Macs can read windows file systems, but if you want to use it as a time machine drive, you’ll need to go into disk utility and format it as jourmalled hfs.

I've got a pile of lossless on a NAS, with a funky seperates system and some lovely speakers. It hasnt been used in over 18 months, I just use spotify and fling it at the soundbar.
