Wonder which part of the spine was damaged?

He seems like he is doing well. Hope he continues to do his passion.

Another famous disabled diver is Frank Gardner, the BBC Security Correspondent who was paralysed in a terrorist attack.

And wasn't there a chap who could only walk AFTER he'd been diving? he had to go diving regularly to stay out of his chair. That one always amazed me.

It's great to see stuff like this achieving results.

btw: I used to be involved in target shooting for the disabled AND for the blind. It was a great antidote to coaching that section of the able bodied fraternity who had excuses lined up for why they weren't doing better.

That was a guy called Mark Chenoweth. I went to Barnard Castle School with him in the 1970s. He suffered from Spina Bifida. He could walk while at school, albeit with an unusual gait. He gradually lost use of his legs, and became confined to a wheelchair. Many years later, he did a trial dive while on holiday in Egypt with his family, and as you say found that feeling and movement returned to his legs, and he could walk again temporarily. The more regularly and deeper he dived, the longer the periods of mobility remained. He became a very keen diver and logged some 300 dives or so in just a few years. I believe that the effect could not be repeated in pressure chamber. He died a few years ago, I think from heart failure.
