    Ghic

For those of us who are eligible - time for this maybe:

Apply for a free UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC)

This is just guidance and requires little response.

    This is absolute genius.

GHICs and old UK EHICs only cover you in EU countries. They do not cover you in Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland.

However, if you were already on a visit to Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland before 1 January 2021, your UK EHIC entitlements will continue until you leave that country. You can also use a UK passport to get medically necessary treatment in Norway.
So the new "Global" card covers fewer countries than the old "European" card used to, and exactly the same number of countries as an old EHIC now covers.

But it works with a blue passport! Yay!

I love progress and the great, new, global Britain.

By the way, UK-issued European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) are still valid. Mine is valid up to the end of 2022.

Yes, that's true, mine is valid to 2025 and SWMBO's is 2023. Slightly off topic, I think a lot of people will be unaware they'll need an ETIAS to travel to the EU from 2022.

The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) was proposed by the European Commission in April 2016 and approved in November 2016. The ETIAS travel authorization is similar to other visa waivers like the well-known US ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). It is expected that towards the end of 2022, the ETIAS System will be fully implemented.

I got my passport renewed in Jan but sadly don't think I will be using it for a while

My EHIC was renewed last year so that's alright for a bit too.
