What an action packed weekend!
From leaving the IoM on Friday, overnight in Dover with medals and cake, a Channel crossing to Dunkirk (with refugee boat), dives on the Mona’s Queen, scans of the King Orry and a slow sail past the site of the Fenella. Although sea conditions on Saturday were perfect, Sunday was fog bound and we had time to visit the Operation Dynamo museum. Then with windy weather looming we crossed back rather than risk being stranded in Dunkirk. In Dover, we visited Admiral Ramsey’s control room where Dynamo was managed, before a dash up the country to ensure we got back to the Island and didn’t get stranded in the UK by the high winds. Our planned 7 day trip became a 4 day trip as we battled the weather.
Huge thanks to everyone for their company, humour, adaptability and resilience. Well done to Ben JH for the original plan, even though it was version M that got us through to the end! Just shows how resourceful we are.
Nearly 83 years after she was lost to a mine in Operation Dynamo, the Mona’s Queen has been visited by a Manx dive team to pay respects on behalf of the relatives of the men who were lost, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and the nation.
I’m looking forward to the exhibition in May which will tell the story of the Monas Queen and include this latest chapter.
