Some you have recently been in touch with Jakub and got a shrimp from him. I have ordered mine with adaptors for apd hoses ie plug and play but found them making the bov really wide. So I have spoken with Jakub who very kindly organised a set of fittings that slide over the conv hoses.

I have just spent 15mins swearing and shouting whilst fitting the new bits.

I will put couple of pictures with old fittings for so that you can see how much narrower the bov ended up

Big difference. I suppose the crucial point is how it works in the water.

i dont anticipate any issues. the surprising part was no need for clips.

I assumed the hoses would slide over the fittings and get clamped down with cable ties. Looks not to be the case though

I got my Shrimp delivered today and its great. I fitted mine to a JJ CCR hose and then pulled the rings (supplied) over the top. Didn't need any cable ties at all. Looks the very cool will be sleeping with it tonight :)

Oh thanks to Greg and Jakub for sorting the Golem gear shrimp for me. Top quality

Yeah the rings are the same as Humpback diving Pictured. You could still use cable ties and then pull the metal black ring over the top.

Ill try and get a picture up at the weekend but for clarification. The black collar/rings are made of a light alloy black in colour about 6cm length and are pictured above (2nd pic). Between the rubber hose and the bayonet fitting on the BOV.

There is definitely a knack to fitting the JJ rubber hose to the Golem Shrimp fittings which did take afew hours to master :)

I did not think I'd fit cable ties under the external collar/rings!?

they were a very tight fit! the first one i tried without any lube then gave up! I had about 0.75cm left and had to refit it using some washing up liquid. I also notice it was much easier to fit the collars once the bayonets were attached to the bov!

I ordered mine with jakub on Monday and it's on its way here. I have gone for the clamped fittings for my inspo

Agreed

However the original JJ CCR rubber hose to BOV connection had a metal securing ring which most people swapped for metal toothed cable ties. To be honest it probably didn't need either but it was there so I might include it on the shrimp.

metal toothed cable ties

this is interesting. have you got a link or a picture of this?

Does the bayonet disconnect sitll operate with these new fittings?

TBF I have never considered the standard set up being too wide, what issues have arisen from this?

if you look at the picture I posted it will show that the bayonets with adapters and original APD hose rings give three different rings i.e. the golem rings plus golem to apd adapters and then the apd hose fittings. by using the convoluted hoses directly on the quick release golem bayonets you loose two sets of rings on each side.

it does make the fittings between hoses and the shrimp less cumbersome.

the quick release that attaches to the shrimp is still the same i.e. quick release therefore can be undone within seconds.

hope this makes sense!

I imagine that the weight will be reduced if only by a few grams.

I have not dived mine yet, but the Shrimp does feel heavier than the JJ BOV which is my only concern at the moment.

I had a JJ BOV and find the shrimp actually feels lighter in the water as the C.o.G is closer to your face without that sticky out bit on the JJ BOV. Stick a gag strap on it and you won't know it's there.

I know this an older thread but I have just bought these clamped Golem fittings for an Inspo. I just wanted to confirm with those who have used and dived them that no cable ties were required for the installation and that they hold pos and neg ok without.
Thanks
Larry

Thanks Diverdave. Looking at the fittings I was wondering exactly how I would get the locking collar over cable ties, but I didn't want to struggle to get them on without cable ties only to find I then needed them.

Hi mate, have a look at my pictures on the first page. I have tried ones that attach to the apd fittings and that was way tooo cumbersome. I then ordered the clamped ones. What a difference. I also noticed the hud is better visible as the shrimp is narrower than apd ocb!

Clamped fittings were $69US plus postage. I had very quick service.

I don't see the issue, I use the standard fittings, they don't obscure my view, they work, what is the issue people are having?

humpbackdiving
29-05-2014, 01:05 PM
nobody said they obscured the view.

the apd conf hoses + golem adapters make the bov a quite wide setup.

Added benefit I noticed that HUD is closer to the center of the vision.

Mine fitted to my JJ with just the slide on collars.

I did use tiny metal tongued ties under the rings just to be sure.

I used 4 cable ties to create a track over the ridges on the hose to aid fitting but these slipped out at the end

Quick question for all you Shrimp owners

The cover from the bottom of the reg with the purge butto on it has fallen off. I havent got time to get a new one before 3 days in weymouth on Wednsday so just wondering if any one has found any problem with this cover being missing.

Common problem I am told.

Hi Mark,

This happened a lot on mine (much earlier model) and yes it was a big problem as the reg will just purge the moment you get in the water. Mine was useless without the cover but yours may be a different enough design...?

I had this happen, assuming you mean the rubber outer cover, once I got a new one I put a small run of aquasure around the lip it sits on, oddly it hasn't fallen off since.

This makes no difference to servicing as the whole of the plastic cover unscrews....

It was a while ago but IIRC I did dive it without issue, it is just there to protect the diaphragm, other than that it has no functional purpose..

Is the cover different from the one on the old big BOV (I guess it must be a lobster compared to a shrimp)? Never had a problem, always been rock solid. I believe it is a part from a full face mask.

For those interested, I have now installed the clamped fittings. Consistent with others lots of lube and swearing required. I found that pulling the collar down the hose and then using two cable ties to guide the hose over the ridges in the nipple helped a lot. When it came to installing the locking collar, it was much easier with the fitting connected to the BOV for some extra leverage. Ohh and did I mention plenty if lube and plenty of swearing also helped a lot.

Cheers
