View Full Version : Help required: OMS double bladder, Hollis SS backplate and webbing...

Right..at risk of looking and sounding like a lunatic..

A friend had just purchased a lovely OMS double bladder bungeed wing in the US..it came in a packet, as well as a Hollis stainless steel backplate, and what can only be described as a plethora of webbing and clips. I'm attaching a picture to help, but I have no idea as to how this all fits together. Whatsmore, the CD that came with it, doesn't seem to fit the exact kit that now lies on the spare room floor.

In short, and needing rigging up, we have:
The Hollis SS backplate
1 x 50mm 180 cm webbing strap
1 x 50mm 203 cm webbing strap
(they both have a small eyelet studded in the middle)
2 x shorter bits of webbing with a trapezium-shaped metal plate (I think this will be a cinch/harpa type system)
2 x shoulder pads and what I think is a crotch strap-pad, these I can work out I think...

So, basically, this not a One Piece Harness as I imagined it would be, but some other configuration... thoughts and (piss-taking) welcome..

Hi Alex
How's tricks. Looks like you have a right mixture - the two metal 'cinch you called them' bits are from a diverite transpac soft harness which has two adjustable and releasable shoulder harness straps - hence the clips. If the pic is missing the metalwork for a one piece harness I would just buy a new one and keep wing and backplate. Quick point is that wing is for a twinset only - or doubles as they say in the Caribbean :-)

Once upon a time I used to have something that looked like that. Cheap & did the job. I soon got rid for something much simpler. Hen also has the same but is in the process of getting rid of the lot, again for simpler kit.

Personally, as Mark said I would spend around 25 & get a new OPH harness with hardware (DIRZone, Dive Rite etc...). Looking at yours there no crotch strap, let alone anything else. That's that sorted. Regarding the wing, as I said I used to have one but got rid. Hen is doing the same. There is an argument for using one in warm water when diving a wetsuit however if you're diving a 'balanced rig' then this simply isn't necessary.

As I've found out, the cheapest options usually aren't.

Thanks, Tim and Mark and Ricky and Paolo

It's cleared it up (btw it's not my kit, it's a mate who bought it whilst recently on 'exercise' in the States). The fact that there were two pieces of webbing, each with an eyelet in them, neither long enough to be a OPH, just flummoxed me. I've told him to go back and dig put all the kit that came with it, including the crotch strap, but in all likelihood, he will need to buy some decent webbing to make it into a OPH.

I saw that Hen was selling hers Tim and going to a non-bungeed wing (after advice from your Cave Instr in Florida??) I'm content with my cobbled-together Buddy Trident Wing for the time being. Will see what my mucker comes back with when he's dug out his other bits...

Thanks again. A
