Tube Weights

I've made some weights for the JJ from some 25mm Alu tubing and used heat shrink to cover them. Is there a resin i could use to seal up the ends??

Only an idea, but in t'old days plumbers used to have lot of lead pipe lying around. I used to fill it with molten lead to the required weight.

So, all you need to do is find a plumber. Or pikey.

If you seal the ends of ali tubing, it will float.

Use a Glue Stick from a "Hot Melt" Glue gun and melt that into the ends. If you haven't got much space, use the gun to fill the top and then a flame to even off the top surface. If you need more than the Gun can cope with you may need another means to melt the sticks.

My step son is a plumber but he doesn't come a cross much lead pipe unfortunately. The only time he did it was too large a diameter, melted down nicely though!

I used x-scooter weight pouches filled with lead shot. Keep it simple and all that.

I had some plastic hose that fitted into the JJ tubes, after a bit of care i sealed the ends and filled with lead shot, i now have 1.25ibs on each side that i can remove very easily.

For what it's worth:

- I cast 8 x 75mm long by 28mm diameter cylinders in lead for the weights. Comes in at just over 0.5 kg per piece.(0.525kg). Mould very easy to make.
- Cut 8 pieces of ~ 28 mm diameter plastic pipe for blanks.

You can then:
- Add weight in 0.5kg increments as required upto 4.2kg
- Even adjust the weighting position in tubes with blanks if this floats your boat.

Araldite.

I made some by sealing the end of lead piping that happened to be exactly the right diameter. Then melted lead down the middle. Don't worry I wore safety sandals.

When I needed some custom shape weights a few years ago I mixed lead shot with a 2 part resin (cant recall what I used). Line wherever you want to fit it to with cling film, pour the mix in, allow to harden. Wrap in duct tape as can be a bit brittle.

You can use fibreglass resin. If you mix in some glass as well, will be strong as anything.

Shows how dear lead is, I know this lot lost over 120 tonnes in a stock take a few years back.

I just need to find them in NI now, postage is somewhat expensive!

There must be a metal merchant there you can buy lead bar from
