Hi there,

I have read online that in the beginning of your career you are typically self employed and pick up work through a diving contract company. Would anyone be able to explain how this works?

Would you have to supply all your own equipment or join a team with all the kit and just turn up on site?

Do you apply for jobs based on your availability or do they contact you asking for you to work?

Thanks

As the equipment is PPE due to the regulations the employer should supply that equipment.
What you need is to gain your commercial diving qualification and once you have your HSE ticket you can look for work.
As for searching for work it may be worth looking at the Longstreath forum or writing to commercial companies that have dive teams.

Thanks for the reply. I am currently in the process of getting my diver medical and then onto HSE commercial diving tickets. Will check out the longstreath forum.

All the very best of luck to you, Akrud. At the very least you'll find friends (and probably enemies) for life during your training. Perhaps a ticket round the world burying inshore cables, and some ribald stories to tell... ;) with the right attitude, you'll probably have a blast \m/
