View Full Version : Flying with sofnolime in hold baggage
Hi Folks
Travelling to the azores in 10days and may have a sofnolime supply issue on the island! Flying with Ryan air- has anyone transported sofnolime in hold baggage? and if so any issues, do's and don'ts?
All recommendations gladly received

Taken lime out to the Red Sea several times. don't take a bare tub, put the tub in a bag, reduces the opportunity for silly questions.

I've flown with lime to the Red Sea with Ryan Air. I put it in a soft bag, with the data sheet, but also removed the irritant stickers. No problems at all.

I have been called down to the aircraft loading area (Virgin - Gatwick to Cancun) to explain what my lime (keg in a soft bag) was. They were OK once I showed them a data sheet and explained what it was.
Thanks Folks
I tried contacting Ryanair today to get the party line! First lady i spoke with had no idea what i was on about and gave me a number for 'special assistance'!! Told her what it was and that I had data sheets stating that it was not restricted for air transport. 2 emails later and the reply comes saying
"Looking at all attachments my answer was NO to transportation ,however I spoke directly to our Safety Department and their answer was the same. As we don’t do actual CARGO we wouldn’t be able to transport it in our aircraft hold. This wouldn’t be accepted on board either.
In that case you will need to look for company who can sheep this for you, but I wouldn’t be able to advise you more on this.
Interesting reply - I wonder if they really understood WTF it all was... Data sheets from molecular products clearly say its ok to fly with!
If in doubt.....say

Some questions are best not asked!
Having said that you're trying to fly cheaply in mass market mode whilst travelling with a specialist irritant chemical for your niche hobby.
Given that aviation safety people get lots of input on how sneaky terrorists try to sneak home made explosive onto planes and none at all in CCR diving its perhaps not surprising they will say no if you give them the opportunity to.
