oops.

On /11/5/15 at about the time we were all sat down for a dive briefing, my Vyper 2 went off on a 1minute dive to 655.4m and back, although dive manager says it barely left the surface.

The computer has done 8 dives quite correctly (i.e with me attached and with the correct data) since.

It's done about 400 dives in total.

Did it suffer from any HPNS?

Sounds like the depth sensor is on the way out. I have had that happen to 2 of my computers to date

Might just be crap in the port where the depth sensor sits. Had this on my Hammerhead, 457m dive recorded in the store cupboard. Gave it a soak and a blast with an air nozzle and it's been fine.

What was the temperature of the dive? If it's something crazy then your depth sensor is probably toast. It happens. Every computer made by man will fail at some point.

No. As far as we know it was a breath hold dive :-0

Temperature recorded was a constant 36c. So I know it's lying as the water temp at the time was only 23 - slightly less than we expected.

I think I'll be sending it to Suunto for disciplinary action.

It could be the sensor, but also a program error. 655m is about 65535cm, which is 0xFFFF in 16 bit hex, or -1 truncated from a signed 32 bit number. All of which may or may not be relevant.

If my money was on who's full of shit right now I,d bet Mr Dobson is smiling of roses and Mr Hemmingway is full of shit...... ;-)

There are precious few people on this planet who understand dive computers as well as Ross.

Ross may be on to something. It is an interesting suggestion and I don't believe that Ross was suggesting anymore than that.

I'd normally expect a duff environmental module to be showing crazy / impossible temperatures (-40c for example). Who knows? Unhappy computer either way. Send it to Suunto.

Did it give you any stops :) mine told me I had to descend to 90m as I'd bust deco, difficult in the kitchen :D
