Update on progress here in Plymouth.

Although the year has been truly awful weather wise, we have had probably the best year yet for discoveries.
This year we have found four new areas of wreckage that have not been seen in 300 years. And it's quite amazing to come across parts of the wreck that were last in human hands the night she sank.
We found an area covered in musket balls, which I proceeded to count, and in one gulley alone there was over 1000! Along with gun aprons and rolls of lead.
Then another area yielded a cannon, two sounding leads, and a handle from a copper kettle

Then pushing on, we found two huge gullies of cannon balls, intermixed with other tools and items we are yet to properly log and identify.
We also found an intact sheve wheel in wonderful lignum vitae wood. (Currently residing in my downstairs toilet!)

More interesting than all of this is that it is beginning to shed light on what happened to her, and is pointing toward a major find.
Can't say why at the moment, but the evidence shows a pattern that indicates we could be close to serious artefact areas.
It's funny, because many academics said the site was dived out, and nothing of worth would be found.

Also on a personal note, I was invited to dive The London in the Thames, which was amazing for many reasons, and am now going to be a regular visitor with the team doing amazing work there. (Read all about it in scuba soon!)

So busy busy busy!

I think 2013 will be rather special! Maybe a year to remember !

Sounds fascinating. I suggested at our club planning meeting that we should do a club trip during the year, so I'm now looking forward to diving it this year hopefully!

I am diving on Saturday and will mention it to a few of the senior club members and see whether they would be interested. I'll let you know.

To be fair, I have only towed 4 boats back in during 2012 :D

Sounds like a photo dive or two might be needed?

Must get down to Plymouth and get a dive in on the coronation. Think it's in my 'things to do' list for the coming year.

Going to have to try and get a dive on the Corie this year - its been something I've been meaning to do for a while

If you do want to dive the Coronation, make sure that you're not there on the same day as me. I have had my name down to dive it at least seven or eight days in 2012, and been blown out every time. :( Let's hope 2013 is better than 2013.

June 1st and 2nd - Coronation survey weekend - 4 dive on and around the Coronation, seeing the main site but also looking at some mag hits in the area of the debris trail between where the ship hit the shoreline and where she sank

Can we do it in Feb on the winter weekend. I'm in Dartmouth on the 1/2 June. :)

You'll have to convince Butcher and a few others!

Just tell him it's the Eastpoint ;)

It's a shallow trip, right?

Yes its a "winter trip" ie 30m max. Hes been out the water so long he needs a scuba review anyway!

I'd be up for it on a winter trip. Didn't manage it last year.

No problem from me, but we won't of put the new floats up at that point. The 10 points on the trail will be difficult to read.

Maybe I need some volunteers ???-
