    Mares MR22 grill

Hi guys just need some thoughts. While diving in the Philippines last week the grill at the front of the reg came loose. I tried pinching it in but eventually the predictable happened and I saw it float off into the deep.

Is it worth replacing? What danger does not having it do? Anyone have a permanent way of fixing it in place (if I replace it) ?

Don't need my regs for a few weeks so plenty of time.

    Cheers

As far as I'm aware the MR22 is the 1st stage. Mares sell a number of 2nd stages that come with the MR22, do you know what 2nd stage you have that the grill came off from? I'm presuming you mean the cover for the purge?

There is a dive guide in el gouna that dives one of these with the grill missing. The diaphragm is exposed and could be torn which would mean that the pressure differential required to open the valve on inhalation would be difficult to achieve.

Suggest you inspect, find out how last one got loose, check if the shim that holds diaphragm in place is still in Situ and replace the grill.

Thanks Joe that's what I needed to know. I think I'll get it done at the next service. I can't see why it came loose or how I can secure it. Cheers

You might want to order the part now ready otherwise the lead time on the part may mean they spend long time in service.
